Pretty simple. Its a large capacity battery that doesnt last as it should. I have a same size battery on a similar amateur radio handheld transciever by ICOM. Under similar use patterns, mostly just listening but some conversations, the Icom lasts for weeks. This battery is lucky to last a few days. Either the battery is not what it is advertised to be, or the radio is poorly designed and is an immense power hog.

The battery gives an extra feeling of security with the additional battery life. It’s nice that the battery doesn’t add any real weight or size difference over the standard battery plus the usb charging ability is nice to have.

We have 3 radios, all with the XL batteries. We recently complected a 3 day/2-night SXS ride. We used the radios all day, turned them off at night and still had over 50% power at the end of the trip. We brought the USB charging ports but did not need to use them.

Drastically improves runtime, eliminating the need to pack multiple HT batteries when returning the HT to its docking station to recharge is not an option.
